Fall is hands down my favorite season, especially with all the great things that Chicago has to offer! With the leaves changing and Halloween fast approaching, there are so many different events that Chicago has to offer, including festivals, family events, fashion shows, and so much more! Social Power Hour is here to make your October in Chicago fantastic with a rundown of fun events this month.
Chicago International Film Festival
Presented by Cinema/Chicago, the Chicago International Film Festival will be celebrating its 50th year! The festival will be held from October 9th to the 23rd. The Festival is notorious for uncovering some of the world’s most renowned directors, including Martin Scorsese, John Carpenter, Taylor Hackford, Susan Seidelman, Victor Nunez, Wim Wenders, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Bertrand Tavernier, Peter Weir, Dariush Mehrjui, Mike Leigh, Alan Parker, Michael Apted, Peter Greenaway, Vincent Ward, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Krzysztof Zanussi, Dusan Makavejev, Victor Erice, Jan Troell, and Maria Louisa Bemberg. Nothing to do the 4th and 5th of October? Come out to Ravenswood ArtWalk, which will be presenting the 13th Annual Tour of Arts and Industry. The tour features the many artists that comprise the creative industry of the Ravenswood Corridor. The ArtWalk will exhibit a wide variety of art, everything from architectural design, to home furnishings, to photography, and everything in between! Fashion Focus: Chicago’s Fashion Week
Missed out on New York City’s Fashion Week? Chicago has you covered! Sponsored by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and the Mayor’s Fashion Council, the event aims to shape the brand of fashion in Chicago, promote fashion education and provide resources to fashion professionals. This year’s Fashion Focus week will take place from October 14th to the 19th, with runway shows in Millenium Park, educational programming, and selling events all over Chicago. Thirsty? This year, the Aragon Ballroom will be hosting Chicago’s 5th Annual BeerHoptacular! Featuring crafts beers from Chicago and all over the country, the event introduces Chicagoans to 150 rare and celebrated beers. Trick or Treat Trot
Looking for a fun race to run? Register for Evanston’s Trick or Treat Trot 6K, presented by NorthShore University Health System! The race will be held on Sunday, October 26th, with a kids race at 9am and the actual 6K beginning at 9:45am! A portion of the proceeds from the race will go to Foundation 65, which raises and grants funds for literacy and the arts for District 65 programs. Register for the race here!
Chicago Ideas Week
Looking for inspiration? Chicago Ideas Week has got you covered. This event brings together some of the world’s top thought leaders in a week-long event filled with speakers, conversations, labs, summits, and a dinner series. This year’s Ideas Week will feature speakers such as George Lucas, Deepak Chopra, M.D.; Christy Turlington Burns, Joan Cusack, John Amaechi, OBE; and Naomi Judd.
