There are many foods that Chicagoan’s hold dear to their heart as uniquely ours, but perhaps none more so than the Italian Beef. While traditional powerhouses such as Al’s Beef, Mr. Beef and Portillos have reigned supreme over the beef market for years, there are relative unknowns that deserve some recognition.
My contention is that newcomer Sal’s Deli located at 1013 W. Webster Ave makes one of the best Italian Beef’s in the city. As a proud Italian and foodie, I have sampled the competition all over the city as well as the suburbs and Sal’s beef stands toe-to-toe with everybody. The quality of the meat, the bread, and the messiness of the sandwich, and side of juice provide all the essentials for a top-notch Chicago beef experience. For those of you who are vegetarians or simply aren’t in the mood for beef, Sal’s has a wide array of other deli favorites for your enjoyment.
